Double Glazing Melbourne

Energy-efficient double glazed glass — manufactured direct from our Dandenong South factory

Double glazing is one of the most effective ways to make a home or building more comfortable and energy-efficient. By sealing two panes of glass around an insulating cavity, double glazed units dramatically reduce the heat that escapes in winter and enters in summer — keeping interiors more stable year-round, lowering energy bills and softening outside noise. At Canon Glass, we manufacture double glazed glass right here in Melbourne, giving you superior quality, competitive pricing and faster lead times, direct from the factory.

How does double glazing work?

A double glazed unit — also called an insulated glass unit, or IGU — is made from two panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edges to create a still, insulating cavity between them. That cavity is filled with dry air or an inert gas such as argon, which conducts far less heat than a single pane of glass. A desiccant inside the spacer keeps the cavity dry, preventing internal fogging and condensation.

Because heat struggles to cross the sealed cavity, the inner pane stays closer to room temperature. This is what gives double glazing its core advantages: better insulation, less condensation on the glass, and a quieter, more comfortable interior. Performance can be tuned further with low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings, tints and different glass types to suit your climate and the orientation of each window.

Why choose double glazing?

  • Thermal insulation — significantly reduces heat transfer, keeping interiors warmer in winter and cooler in summer
  • Lower energy bills — less reliance on heating and cooling year-round
  • Noise reduction — the sealed cavity helps dampen outside noise, with laminated or asymmetric glass options for higher acoustic performance
  • Less condensation — the warmer inner pane reduces fogging and moisture build-up
  • Greater comfort — fewer cold spots and draughts around windows
  • Safety and security — can be built with toughened or laminated glass for added strength
  • Design flexibility — available with Low-E coatings, tints and a range of glass types
